Solano Business Connections

Background

This event was conceived by Mr. Johnston to kick-start a public awareness campaign for Solano College.  Mr. Johnston had just started as Executive Director of the SCC Educational Foundation. The Foundation was in a difficult position with no website or marketing materials, no fundraising campaigns, and limited funds.  But the college was a member of ten Chambers of Commerce and operated an underutilized contract training program available to local businesses.  The ten Chambers were a target audience for college business services with representatives from throughout Solano County.  Also, Chamber members included potential sponsors and vendors seeking access to new customers. Solano Business Connections was born using available resources in a creative way to generate value for the organization.

From a Modest Start to a Major Annual Business Event

What started as a modest 5,000 sq. ft. venue with 150 people, grew to a 23,000 sq. ft. conference tent placed on the front lawn at Solano College, then expanded into a 30,000 sq. ft convention space for 600 to 700 people, 100 sponsor and vendor booths, and small business seminars.  This growth occurred in just three years with the fourth event.  The photos below are from the four events.  More more photos, visit this LINK.
