West Wind Music & Events was founded by Curt Johnston. Mr. Johnston has over three decades of experience in planning, program management, and fundraising. He has performed this work for public agencies, as a non-profit foundation director, and volunteer for charitable causes. Below are a variety of projects he has managed over the years, from the simple to the highly complex. A common theme is that Mr. Johnston applied his creativity and problem skills to complete projects for a strategic purpose aligned with organization goals. Country Music Festival Produced by West Wind Music
This event demonstrated the complexity of events that we are capable of coordinating for you. A team of approximately 30 private contractors were assembled and coordinated to handle all aspects of the music festival.
Solano Business Connections
Trade Show and Seminar with Ten Chambers in 23,000 s.f. Tent
This event changed the perception of the college in the local business community. In just three years, the event grew to 30,000 s.f. with 700 people in attendance, 100 marketing and vendor booths, and small business seminars.
Business Networking Series
Annual Business Mixers in Fairfield, Vacaville and Vallejo
This networking series was an outgrowth of Solano Business Connections. The idea was to break down one large scale event into three mixers during the year. Four to six Chambers of Commerce participated in each event with typical attendance of 150 to 250 participants.
Crab & Shrimp Feed with Captain Bob’s Dive Bar
Fundraising Dinner
In a crowded field of similar events, this dinner grew to 600 attendees in just three years. The growth was fueled by a creative island theme and “Captain Bob’s Dive Bar.” Also driving attendance was the addition of jumbo shrimp, a live band, and island and dive bar decorations.
Tee Off for Education
Golf Tournament
The tournament captured sponsors and players involved in construction at Solano College for eleven years. It featured student-athletes as volunteers on course. Solano College Annual Benefit Galas
Fundraising Event
This annual event highlighted a specific college program each year, such as Biotech, Automotive Technology, Performing Arts, or Literary Arts. A new class of SCC Distinguished Alumni was recognized each year with those selected often from the program being recognized.
Bethany Lutheran School
$7.5M Project for Private School (20,000 s.f. on 6.25 acres)
Over an eight-year period, Mr. Johnston oversaw site selection, negotiated a Disposition and Development Agreement with the Vacaville Redevelopment Agency, and lead the fundraising drive. He prepared a ten-year financial plan and obtained multiple loans. Mr. Johnston led the selection of the design team and contractor and represented the School and Church during the City review process and construction.
Kastner Cup
Vintage Car Race
All-Triumph National Race
Mr. Johnston owns vintage race cars and competes on tracks across the county. Skilled in management and event planning, he has coordinated the Kastner Cup, a national all-Triumph vintage race. He served as Chairman in 2021 (Portland, OR), 2022 (Pittsburgh, PA) and 2024 (Sonoma, CA). The Kastner Cup is a four-day event with activities coordinated each day, such as casual evening socials, a dinner, and awards ceremony. He is available to assist other racing events.
Fairfield Tomato Festival
Reimagining and Preserving
a Community Festival
Working as Economic Development Manager for Fairfield, Mr. Johnston revitalized this downtown festival by visiting farmers markets to source heirloom tomatoes. He established “Tomato Alley” for sampling, sale of related products, and cooking demonstrations. To add interest, an “Attached Of The Killer Tomatoes” film festival was established. The following year, he secured a contact to grow 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes ensuring future success of the festival.
